Project Overview:

I served as both the engineer for Ethereal Compass' next single currently dubbed "Crashing Out". My primary role involved managing the entire production process, from tracking to mixing to mastering, while ensuring the sound stayed true to the raw, aggressive energy of punk metal. The project aimed to blend high-octane punk rhythms with metal’s heavy, distorted tones.

Responsibilities:

Recording:

  • Engineered all tracking sessions, managing multiple recording techniques to capture the dynamic performances of each band member, ensuring each instrument’s tone can stand out in the mix.

  • Led drum tracking using a combination of overhead and room mics to capture the full impact of the aggressive drum sound.

  • Captured intense guitar and bass tones through mic’ing various amps, adding distortion to the recording to emphasize the genre's intense nature.

  • Oversaw vocal recording, using a Shure SM58 and adding distortion effects for grit and aggression to match the band’s style.

Mixing:

Mastering:

                          [In Progress]

Challenges & Solutions:

Challenge:

  • The band had a lot of raw energy, which made capturing their live sound without it becoming too chaotic a challenge.

Solution:

  • I employed a mix of isolation techniques and room mics to maintain energy while ensuring clarity in the final mix. Using a combination of distortion and reverb, I created a sense of space without losing the album’s rawness.
